Ancient Egyptian Myths and Stories- Week 4

Ancient Egyptian Myths and Stories

I really enjoyed reading this unit. One of my favorite chapters was the first chapter: Creation. I really liked this reading because I enjoy reading all the different stories or beliefs of how the universe and Earth was created. In this particular story, the beginning did not start with nothing but rather with water. I thought that this was interesting. The God goes on to make other Gods to overseer earthly things such as weather, the wind, and animals.

The chapter Osiris was an interesting section as well. This chapter was mainly about Osiris and his ruling. At this time the Earth and its inhabitants are discerned as wicked. To save the people of Earth from sin and evil Osiris came to Earth and ushered a "new age" or decrees. With these laws, the people of Earth lived virtuously and peacefully. Osiris was distinguished as a wise and powerful ruler by everyone, including the God Ra. This consequently made the God Set jealous.

In the The Death of Osiris, Set who is driven by jealousy plots his plan to get rid of Osiris. While Osiris was testing a chest out by laying in it, Set ran to the chest and nailed the chest shut. Set and his friends carried the chest and disposed of it. And that was the death of Osiris, a great and wise king. It was not until in The King of the Dead that we hear from Osiris again. A winged Isis flew over the body of Osiris and the air from her wings entered into the nostrils of Osiris, causing him to awaken the death. Because of this he became the King of the Dead.
